Luxury exploration with a mission to protect the enthralling beauty of the last frontier.

Designed for travelers who value depth over scale, The Boat Company’s small-ship voyages combine immersive exploration, understated luxury, and a mission to protect Alaska’s extraordinary landscapes.

Immersive, small-group experiences

Immersive, small-group experiences

Our ships are intentionally small, allowing for flexible days shaped by weather, wildlife, and curiosity rather than fixed schedules. Fewer guests mean more time ashore, quieter approaches, and access to places larger vessels can’t reach. The result is an experience that feels personal, unhurried, and deeply immersive — Alaska at its natural pace.

Wildlife

Wildlife

Wildlife encounters unfold organically as we travel slowly and stay flexible. From humpback whales feeding nearby to bears and eagles along the shoreline, moments are discovered rather than staged. Onboard naturalists provide context that deepens understanding, encouraging observation rooted in respect and patience.

Glaciers

Glaciers

Glaciers are dynamic, living landscapes, and our small ships allow us to experience them up close. Guests explore by ship, skiff, and sometimes kayak, revealing details often missed from afar — crevasses, calving ice, and deep blue formations. These encounters offer perspective on geological time and the changing climate shaping Alaska today.

Hiking

Hiking

Hiking brings guests directly into Alaska’s forests, shorelines, and wild terrain, including rarely visited areas of the Tongass National Forest made accessible through our special use permits. Routes are chosen daily based on conditions and interests, from leisurely walks to more adventurous hikes. Moving in small groups allows for unhurried exploration of these special places.

Kayaking

Kayaking

Kayaking offers a quiet, immersive way to explore Alaska’s protected waterways. Paddling at water level reveals intimate details — kelp forests, rocky coves, and wildlife along the shore — without engine noise or disturbance. Guided small groups ensure a calm, accessible experience shaped by the day’s conditions.

Fishing

Fishing

Fishing is approached as a connection to Alaska’s waters and traditions. Guests learn sustainable techniques through guided experiences tailored to skill level, with an emphasis on stewardship and respect for local ecosystems. When possible, the day’s catch is prepared onboard, creating a meaningful water-to-table experience.

Cuisine

Cuisine

Cuisine aboard our ships is thoughtfully prepared by world-class chefs, using fresh ingredients and regional inspiration. Meals are served at our wrap-around, windowed fantail table — a front-row seat to Alaska’s scenery — where guests dine comfortably after full days of exploration. It’s refined, carefully crafted food, enjoyed in casual clothes, with attentive service that feels effortless rather than formal.

Sustainable, eco-friendly travel

Sustainable, eco-friendly travel

Sustainability guides every aspect of our voyages, from ship operations to daily decisions onboard. Traveling by small ship naturally reduces impact while allowing deeper access without congestion. Education and conservation are woven into the experience, fostering understanding of the ecosystems we explore.

Bird-watching

Bird-watching

The Tongass National Forest is one of the richest birding landscapes on the planet. Its old-growth forests and abundant salmon runs support one of the largest concentrations of bald eagles anywhere in the world. Each summer, species like the Arctic tern — known for the longest migration of any animal on Earth — return to these coasts, creating remarkable viewing opportunities from both shore and ship.

Awards & Recognition

We spent a week with The Boat Company the first week of July for our honeymoon and it was the most amazing experience. The size of our boat was perfect with us having less than 20 passengers along with 12 crewman and it was a beautiful, comfortable wooden boat with gorgeous lacquered wood everywhere. It was an intimate experience where we had close encounters with so many whales, bears, otters, seals, eagles, moose, etc. I felt totally immersed in nature and the beauty of SE Alaska was stunning. We were able to fly fish, kayak, salt water fish, go hiking, etc. I came back feeling like I was gone for a month! The crew on the boat went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience and we did! The food was beyond extraordinary and every single crewman contributed to the whole experience and were part of us having the most incredible trip. There is a lot of logistics and The Boat Company ensured that the trip was seamless! They handled everything and it made me want to never leave. I can not recommend this trip enough. You will never regret experience. Thank you Boat Company!!

A trip with The Boat Company is SO worth it. You experience Alaska up close by watching wildlife from the boat or taking a skiff to shore to hike and learn about the forest and the glaciers. Try kayaking in the early morning to explore the shoreline. Then there is the fishing for salmon and halibut that is crazy fun! They will even take you fly fishing in one of the many streams. Oh, to eat crab, caught by you that day, is so tasty, there is nothing like it. The breakfast/lunch/dinners are delicious. If a dish is not to your liking, they will whip something up that will be to your taste. The crew waits on you and invites request so that the trip is tailored for you. For me, knowing a part of the money I spent for my trip was used by the company to guide conservation of the Tongass National Forest; Indirectly, I am helping a cause. I encourage you to research the The Boat Company and book a trip of a lifetime. I am not paid for this comment, I believe in the cause and very much enjoyed my trip that began in Sitka, Alaska and sailed to Juneau, Alaska, stopping at different places along the way.

My wife and I recently returned from an unforgettable trip with The Boat Company on Alaska’s Inside Passage, joined by 9 other couples. The experience was phenomenal! We enjoyed hiking, fishing, glacier watching, whale watching, and soaking in Alaska’s breath taking scenery. The crew was exceptional—truly out of this world—and the food was outstanding, surpassing all expectations. We saw numerous bears and learned so much about Alaska’s environment and ecosystem. I highly recommend The Boat Company for an incredible, immersive adventure in Alaska!

Our trip on the Mist Cove from June 1-7 was beyond amazing it exceeded every expectation that we had going into the trip. The crew and captain Jim were amazing attending to your every need… went way above and beyond. The food was amazing and I went well out of my comfort zone trying new dishes and enjoying them immensely. I have a new found love for Alaska and would recommend to anyone I know that The Boat Company is the way to go.

Let me start by saying that I'm not easily impressed, but from the moment my wife and I boarded, we felt this might be a very special life changing expedition set in the lap of luxury that is the "Mist Cove". We could have never imagined what the Captain and crew had in store for us! The beautiful landscape and diverse wilderness of Alaska is the perfect backdrop for the Boat Company to inspire, inform and overwhelm their guests. From the very confident Captain and his engineer, to the passionate naturalist, the remarkably talented chef, the stewards, the mates and the deck hands; they all made us feel safe and treated us like royalty. The twice daily expeditions offered by their awesome event coordinator included kayaking, fishing, hiking and a few very special experiences including glaciers and waterfalls! We boarded as strangers and departed as friends having shared a wonderful experience provided by the Captain and crew as they shared with us, the breathtaking beauty that only Alaska can provide. I hope my review provides you a small glimpse into what awaits you should you decide to board the best ever Alaska expedition that the world has to offer! Thank you to the entire boat company for all you do to raise awareness of the importance of protecting this national treasure for all to enjoy! Well done! Very well done!

Our cruise with The Boat Company was beyond our wildest expectations. From the timeless ship, the M/S Liseron which felt like home the minute you stepped aboard, the gorgeous Alaskan scenery, the 5 star food, the personable and talented 12 crew members, the new friendships that we created with the other passengers and crew, the daily excursions (kayaking, fishing, hiking) the weather and the wildlife (orcas, humpback whales, brown and black bears, halibut, rockfish, ling cod, crabs, deer, sea lions, seals and more) it was a 100 on a 10 rating scale. My husband and I have travelled to multiple Caribbean islands, but the cruise with The Boat Company blew them all out of the water (literally). We have recommended this trip to all our friends. It was a once in a lifetime magical experience that we will never be able to replicate. A shout out to the crew members: Captain Clif, Margo, Lexi, Hunter, Mickie, Pete, Whitney, Dylan, Olivia, Kya, Athena and Christian for giving us a trip of a lifetime and to Kathy for helping us plan this unforgettable trip. What an amazing group of people!! THANK YOU!

Our family had the best trip on the Liseron. It’s been a dream ever since I went on the Mist Cove as a teenager that I would have the opportunity to return to Alaska with the Boat Company, so being able to share this special week with my husband and kids was life changing for me. Alaska of course is beautiful no matter your perspective, but I will say getting to see it from a 150 ft boat (and even smaller skiff) allows you to navigate into true Alaskan wilderness, its breathtaking at every moment. All that said, I have to mention the crew on the Liseron are what really made the trip special. They were friendly, approachable, and attentive to everything we needed (our kids have very kid-like palates and they did their best to accommodate while treating everyone else to a 5 star cuisine). You feel like you’re being hosted by friends. They were informative about their conservation efforts and go to great lengths to educate you on the things you’re getting to see up close and personal. Do you like whales, fishing, kayaking, hiking, bears, and other wild adventures? They will make sure you have the opportunity to experience Alaska in the exact way you want to. It was an incredible week and we’re so happy for the memories.

If I could pick only one vacation in my lifetime, it would be this! Seriously! The attention to detail…helpful communication…heartwarming staff…the gorgeous boat… perfect accommodations… 5 star food… I could go on and on and on! The Boat Company set the standard in which every ecotourism vacation should be held. I came away with a broader respect for the Tongass national Park and the renewed spark to do everything I can to protect it.

After a week on the Mist Cove I find myself plotting a way to do it again; it was amazing. The crew was so enthusiastic, knowledgeable and accommodating. The Mist Cove is well appointed and comfortable. Then there’s the Tongass National Forest and all it’s natural beauty and spectacle; incredible scenery and fun things to do. One of highlights was meeting some really wonderful people and sharing our experiences! Thanks Mist Cove crew; y’all rock!

The Boat Company is the only way to see and experience SE Alaska. Many of us on the boat commented it was summer camp for adults. I have been home 2 weeks but long to be back on the Mist Cove with Captain Jim and the entire crew. We were able to experience kayaking, hiking, wildlife and fishing with the crew. We were not shuttled off on busses or vans. Each adventure was better than the last. The boat is clean, the food amazing but the entire crew made this trip a dream come true. I wish I could make the trip every year. It was an unforgettable adventure. My fellow passengers also made the trip remarkable. It was hard to say goodbye to everyone. What a mystical and magical trip. Thank you to the Boat Company, Captain Jim and crew and my friends on the Mist Cove! I HIGHLY recommend The Boat Company! You will not regret a minute.
